"As far back as I can remember, I've wanted to throw clay on
the wheel. My formal education trained me as a nurse, and
the garment industry schooled me in business. It wasn't until I
worked in a restaurant kitchen that I found the sense of
adventure necessary for clay, and an entree into a production
porcelain studio. There, I worked in exchange for studio
space and learned by trial and error. My inspirations come
from ancient ceramics and my travels, as well as life in New
York City. In my work, I layer texture over texture, creating
and obliterating images which are found unexpectedly during
use. Multi step glazing technique enchances the contrast of
tranquil interior, with rough exterior. Each piece is unique,
and made of porcelain, which is microwave and dishwasher
safe." - Alice Goldsmith
