SETH PARKS

"I now focus on creating forms from nature, such as flowers and animals, then usually incorporate them into lampworked goblets or perfume bottles. Lampworking or "flameworking" is a technique derived from the centuries-old technique of blowing glass using an oil lamp. I start with a glass tube or rod and then apply the desired colors by melting glass on the outside of the tube using my propane/oxygen torch, burning at 5300 degrees Fahrenheit. I then reheat the piece in the flame, blow it out to the desired size and shape, and then further shape it with various graphite and metal tools. I have attended classes at some of the world’s leading glass schools, including at The Studio of The Corning Museum of Glass, Penland School of Crafts, Snow Farm and Pilchuck Glass School." - Seth Parks
