    • Artist Statement:
A 1996 graduate of Rhode Island School of Design, I live and work in Rhode Island, sharing my studio with my dogs Zeke and Kato. Obsessed with the tactile world, I have amassed a collection of plant and tree segments, minerals, fungi, insects, skeletons, hives, and photographs of life ’both hidden and apparent. From these inspirations I create pieces that carry with them hints of these forms, textures, and moods. While I do love to make one-of-a-kind conceptual jewelry, my collection now predominantly consists of limited production pieces. I have realized the importance of both making a living and producing pieces that people can connect with, wear, and enjoy daily. I focus much of my attention on the circle. Rings and round elements inspire me with their continuity, simplicity, and strength. I love making rings ’the more textural the better. I do hope you enjoy!

    • Yasuko's collection focuses on earthly delights, each of which are hand carved and hand finished with her pierced work. The changing of seasons is also a driving force in her collection. She describes her diamond dust texture as trying to capture the moment on an icy cold day in winter when the motion in the air sparkles when it freezes. Yasuko replicates this feeling with light hammering which creates a glimmer of matte and shine. The essence of her designs shows through in their subtlety. The Yasuko Azuma collection attracts a broad range of women without ever being overly designed. The pieces never outshine my customers but rather enhance their diverse and inherent beauty.

    • Chihiro Makio has always loved creating precious little things, even from an early age. At first she thought she would become a painter when she started college as a studio-art major. There she discovered great fun and endless possibilities with three-dimensional materials. She learned how to work with wood, fiber, and metal. Transferring to a different school gave her the opportunity to meet another material: glass. Chihiro Makio completed a bachelor's fine art degree at the Massachusetts College of Art as a glass major with a minor in small metals/jewelry. Since then she has won several awards, including Saul Bell Design Awards from 2003 through 2007, and Niche Award in 2005.
