Mirena Kim lives and works in Los Angeles, California. She has been making pots since 1991, when a fruitless search for a simple, unadorned cylinder caused her to decide to make her own. She sat down at the wheel and I was instantly captivated by the motion, speed, and emotional highs and lows of the process.
A graphic designer at the time, she knew that eventually, she would become a full-time potter. The idea that each thing should be useful, even if in a purely visual way, is my credo. Her initial need to find that simple cylinder is still there. She believes that economy and simplicity are modern and always relevant.
